Self-love is a beautiful and transformative journey, which can have a profound impact on our lives. It's about accepting and loving ourselves for who we are, flaws and all, and treating ourselves with the kindness and compassion that we deserve.
But where do we begin with self-love? The answer of course, lies within. We need to learn to turn inward and connect with ourselves on a deeper level, with honesty and vulnerability. This means taking the time to understand our emotions, thoughts, and beliefs, and examining the ways in which we treat ourselves.
The real breakthrough for me was when I found my spiritual teacher and mentor Nalanieji. I started meditating and studying the Yoga philosophy, then I slowly and truly began to accept and love myself. For me it’s a continuous journey, some days are better than others.
Like many people, I've often felt pressure to conform to society's narrow beauty standards and I have struggled with feeling self-conscious about my body. However, I've learned to shift my focus from how I look to how I feel. I've also realized that it is so much more fun to appreciate and celebrate my body for all that it does for me. I mean, it’s a true miracle machine we live in, rather than criticizing it for not meeting some unrealistic ideal.
Now I practice more self-care, doing things that make me feel good, and taking care of my physical health. I also began to challenge my negative self-talk by nipping it in the bud, and replacing it with positive affirmations as well as focusing on my strengths instead of my weaknesses. It’s almost like I have to guard myself, from myself, if that makes any sense.
But the most important step I took was learning to forgive and accept myself, just the way I am right now. I had to let go of the mistakes and regrets of my past and learn to love myself in the present moment. This wasn't easy, but it was essential for my self-growth and healing.
I have set a goal for this year; to become whole, or at least closer to whole. When I told my therapist (yes, I have coach/therapist session online every other week, very grateful for that) about my goal. She thought it was a little sad at first, until I explained some more.
When I’m around people who are whole, I get a feeling they truly love and accept themselves - mind, body and soul. They are so amazing and grounding to be around. Their energy and frequency are light and clean. I want and need more of that! I am a work in progress, like most of us, and I’m enjoying the journey.
For me, self-love is not about being perfect, but about accepting ourselves as we are and embracing our imperfections. It's about recognizing our worth and treating ourselves with the same kindness and compassion that we would give to others. And also have some fun with it and not be rigid.
Setting healthy boundaries and prioritizing my own well-being is an act of self-love, not selfishness. By communicating my needs and values clearly and respectfully, I've been able to cultivate deeper, more fulfilling relationships with the people in my life.
So if you're struggling with self-love, remember that it's a journey, and it starts within. Take the time to connect with yourself, be kind to yourself, and celebrate your unique qualities. You deserve it. Now repeat after me and keep repeating during the day:
I love and accept myself, just the way I am right now!!
Thank you for being here.
I love you,
Kim
